Islam 101
Q. What is Islam?
A. Islam is the second largest religion in the world and the United States. Approximately 21.0%, or 1.4 billion people on Earth. Islam is a complete way of life. Muslims, followers of Islam, live a life of peace, harmony and mercy. The vast majority of Muslims are not engaged in or support violence against others.
Q. Who are Muslims and where do they live?
A. Muslims live in each and every country on Earth. Twenty percent of all Muslims live in the Middle East. The country with the largest Muslim population is Indonesia. The United States has 3-6% of the population as Muslim. The states with the highest number of Muslims are Texas, California and New York. Dearborn, MI has the largest concentration of Muslims in the United States.
Q. What do Muslims believe?
A. Muslims believe in God that Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus believed in; all of the prophets of God; in the Books of God; in the Angels; in predestination.
Q. Who is Muhammed?
A. Muhammed, peace be upon him (pbuh), was the last in a long line of messangers. He was given the last and final testement to God, a culmination of all that was brought before.
Q. What is the Qur'an?
A. The Qur'an is the last book that was revealed to mankind. The Qur'an was revealed to Muhammed. The Qur'an teaches us not only about God, but how to worship Him and live our lives, it is a complete way.
Q. What is Jihad, and do support Osama Bin Laden?
A. First, Bin Laden does not represent Islam. Meccamiles, as with most muslims, do not support or approve of him or his tactics. What he does is no Jihad, but rather terrorism and anti Islam.
Jihad simply means struggle. The highest form of Jihad is to stuggle against oneself. Jihad against a country is permissible ONLY if the population is being oppressed and life of an individual is being threatened where the only recourse for survival is to strike out, aka self defense.
